About us
I’m Matt McKay and I founded McDrive driving school. I qualified as driving instructor in 2017 with BSM before setting up McDrive in 2020 and I love my job! I’m originally from Bristol, I have lived in Wokingham since 2012 with my wife, daughter and two dogs, Maggie.& Nelly
The joy of seeing someone pass their test never gets boring and I get enormous satisfaction sharing the success of a students achievement. Seeing previous student’s driving around town after passing their test, is always a pleasure.
I like my lessons to be relaxed, fun, informative and try to keep things simple while learning in style in the VW Scirocco GT.

Learning to drive is an exciting time but I understand that first step can be a nervous experience. I will personally create a tailor-made plan to give you the skills and confidence to get you through your driving test and beyond.
The vehicle used is a VWScirocco GT Manual with dual controls.
Driving Lessons (2 hour manual lessons £45 per hour)
Let’s do this! Manual lessons for Wokingham and surrounding areas. I will prepare you for your test and beyond. Daily, weekly, or to supplement your home learning I have a plan for you.
Improve your driving (2 hours manual £45 per hour)
Whether recently passed, new to UK roads or having had a break from driving and need to dust off that license, I’ll help you become a more confident, safety-savvy driver.
Motorway lesson (2 hours Manual £45 per hour)
Motorways can be a daunting place for any driver, I can guide you through the understanding of motorways and give you the confidence to use them with ease. I will ensure you’ll be planning those weekend trips you’ve been putting off in no time!

Matt really did save me, he took me on with just a month until my test after finding out my original instructor wasn’t available for my test. No there wasn’t much for him to teach me however he had the most faith in me when I had little faith in myself. The first lesson I had with him he made me feel so comfortable and considering I’m quite a nervous person he made me feel so relaxed from the first minute. Matt is a fantastic driving instructor! I found him to be very supportive, friendly and patient, providing clear explanations about road situations, and providing useful tips to help me work on the areas I found challenging. I liked the way he tried to simplify the concepts as much as possible, encouraging me to focus on one activity at a time whenever this was practical, and emphasising the importance of advance planning - such as before roundabouts and busy junctions. This fitted in well with my style of learning. Sometimes he would carefully introduce me to situations or locations that were more challenging than anything I would encounter in my test, boosting my confidence and building up my "real world" driving experience. Lessons were held in a modern and easy-to-drive car in the same convenient evening time slot each week, thus helping me to plan accordingly, and ensuring that I stayed in practice. He was easy to get hold of if I needed to contact him at other times.

My son, Thomas, took driving lessons with Matt and helped him a lot! After being with other instructors who he did not feel comfortable with, Matt aided him to gain his confidence and enjoy driving.
